So I had never read a book by L. Ron Hubbard until now and I gotta say I was very impressed by this story. I heard that he was a good writer of westerns and that statement is certainly right. Right away there's a funny concept as a stranger comes to a town and realizes that it's a ghost town and that it's only inhabited citizen is playing the role of not only himself but the major, sheriff, bartender and bank clerk. I kept thinking it was going get stranger and stranger but it stayed as it was which was solid, weird, funny and western. The storyline is very well put together and the characters(all of them at their finest) to quote in ole western jargon are "very interesting fellers". There is quite a twist toward the end that I won't reveal but while it wasn't what I was expecting I did respect it and it didn't ruin the story. Pokey MaKay, the main character of many is quite a trip and sometimes I'm sure you'll find yourself reading sentences a few times just to really get what's going on cause it's so funny to believe.
I gotta say, I was quite impressed for my first Hubbard read. I just downloaded this off a site and thought I could read it in one sitting and indeed I did. It's definitely worth checking out if you like short stories and westerns. I will be checking out more of L. Ron Hubbards westerns works for sure.
