This isn't a book that I would have picked up on my own; my husband recommended it to me. At first glance I was afraid that it might be too blasphemous for my taste. My husband went to Catholic school and is therefore enjoys blasphemous fiction more than I do. I appreciate the irreverent but don't like to take chances just in case. But before I knew what happened, I got sucked in. It was the lizard thing. I soon realized that this book could only have been written by someone who really knew his stuff.
Basically, Moore speculates on what Christ's life might have been like besides the parts that we are told about in the gospels. It's funny, it's mostly realistic and it's obviously supported by very extensive research. I appreciate hilariously funny when I can get it, but I really respect an author who is willing to put in the time and effort to get his history right.
