The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium #1)

One of the most unique, memorable crime stories that has yet to be duplicated, it's immersive, evocative and filled with plot twists.
Mikael Bloomqvist, is the founder of the Swedish progressive magazine Millennium, who recently lost a liable, slander court case and faces imprisonment in 6 months. Out of the blue, a billionaire offers him a large sum if he can locate a granddaughter that disappeared decades ago. Since the law suit cost him and the magazine dearly, he agrees to live on the property and invest the time.
Lisbeth Salander, a computer hacker and researcher is well aware of the Millennium problems having hacked their systems for a research project. When she reads Mikael's emails her interests are piqued. Soon after she shows up at the cabin to help and as clues surface, tension from the family members becomes an obstacle. An older brother is a former Nazi advocate and has his sights set on Mikael for disturbing status quo.
The first part of the trilogy opens the door to the sequels which focus on Lis' back story and unorthodox lifestyle along with discovery of a secret clan of government executives who want to destroy her and Bloomqvist.
The Swedish film adaptation won countless awards but it's the books that deserve the accolades.
