did not like it

As a work of fiction it's laughably bad and poorly conceived. Giant logical fallacies, poor character development, and all the plots are scuttled by a magical, invisible entity that's petty, cruel, tyrannical, and amoral. There is no central narrative that is worthwhile (or even believable), and each of the chapters seem written by committee rather than a singular voice. Clearly the book was so bad to begin with a team of editors had to step in and make major changes - which means no part of this book is even meritorious or reflects an author's vision. Frankly, I don't see this book having much of an impact.

Shannon Too bad you're wrong. In fact, it's made so much of an impact that our Nation was built upon it.

message 2: by Tom (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tom Roche Actually, our country wasn't built upon it, that's a myth. And I just finished this "good" book myself - thank goodness our country wasn't built upon the utter horribleness that's in this book - and they saved the most messed up for last! I laughed out loud at the book of revelation - man, someone had a bad acid trip a few thousand years ago!

Joseph the bible is true

Daniel The Bible is true, but some people just wont believe that. I am really happy I'm one God's followers.

Titus2teen What is wrong you people!?! This is how the world came to be! This is the history of the world! You may not like it, but you can't change history: You can't change the fact that JFK got shot! You can't change the fact that the WW1 and WW2 happened! But guess what? YOU CAN'T CHANGE IT!!! Wake up, realize the connections between the Holy Bible and the real world! Please! Come on people, PLEASE!!

message 6: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Villa This is not the history of the world. The world began roughly 14.5 billion years ago. Proven by science. Adam and Eve were not the first humans. Evolution created humans. Proven by science. Anyone that believes in the bible is driven by faith whereas others are driven by science, knowledge, and factual information that can be tested against.

message 7: by Alejandro (new)

Alejandro OC I think people should respect each others beliefs and traditions. This review is too insulting! It makes people that believe in God and Jesus mad, and sad. The Bible means a lot to many people, and I think all people shall respect each other's opinions :)

Shannon Andrew wrote: "This is not the history of the world. The world began roughly 14.5 billion years ago. Proven by science. Adam and Eve were not the first humans. Evolution created humans. Proven by science. Anyone ..."

You should do a little more research into the term "theory".

message 9: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Villa Theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation. So where's your body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed shannon?

message 10: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Villa Or is it that you just have faith not facts?

Shannon if you want to get really technical about it, a theory is a set of assumptions, not facts, that can be used to create hypotheses which can be tested and used to further expand said theory. but anyway,...to answer your question...both :). have an awesome week.

message 12: by Hunter (new)

Hunter Batley If we could know everything, we wouldn't need faith. The beauty of it is, we do need faith. You don't know everything, do you? :)

message 13: by Joel (new) - added it

Joel All I'm thinking about when reading some of these very rude and purely based conclusions by some of these reviews is that, did you read the book or did you skim it, take what you wanted to to make the conclusions you wanted to make? This historically accurate, most well put together piece of literature that is the most sold book every year ever since its been accessible to the mass public, has obviously caught the attention of so many people for a good reason. But I do see where some misconceptions are coming from, because without a good understanding of the reasons for Gods actions in some situations, to the supposed science/religious contradictions which actually don't contradict at all. Maybe you should think about sitting down with someone that does understand how to explain such a complicated book in a more than a 10 line review.
No disrespect was meant by this review by the way, just some observations that I thought would stop some arguments and start some actual logical, brain powered reasoning. And not anger ridden, rude, misconceptions that are in some of these previous reviews.

message 14: by Sam (new)

Sam Joel, this is no where near historically accurate! It doesn't even make sense in the first place. For example the great flood. Noah took two of every land animal blah blah blah, but why? A lot of animals reproduce asexually, plus the rain that fell for that amount of time would be freshwater, thus mixing with the salt water and kill most of the creature in the "one large ocean." Also if it was historically accurate someone would've found a skeleton of a giant by now (e.x Goliath). The "holy" bible is just a work of fiction with a fan base that has gone out of proportions.

Brock This is a work of art it is all true!! The atheists that said its fake YALL are wrong u should read the full bible with your hands god gave you and your eyes god gave you we all didnt come from fricken apes we came from ADAM AND EVE who's generation went on until now!!!! Atheists were idiots back then!!!!

Brock And r idiots now!!!! U will go to hell because you don't believe!!! You'll be sorry that you didn't believe in The Lord Jesus Christ!!!!!!!

message 17: by Alec (new)

Alec Casey sigh... no hope in humanity.

Eddie Siger Evolution is an unproven theory, therefore taking faith to believe. "Evolution created humans". Very nice wordplay indeed my friend.

Eddie Siger Believing the world is 14.5 billion years old is downright stupid considering a star the size of our sun has a life span of roughly 10 billion years

message 20: by Layne (new)

Layne Brock, you are a psychopath.

message 21: by Layne (new)

Layne I'm not sure if I believe in god or not. If there really is a god, he/she/it is nothing like what most humans think he/she/it really is. I do believe, however, that the bible is a load of hogwash. See you in hell, Brock! Hahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

message 22: by Molly (new)

Molly I understand if you didn't enjoy reading this, but it is really necessary for you to mock and degrade the book that is the foundation for one of the most common religions in the world? It's rude and childish, and that's coming from a fourteen-year-old. You have a right to an opinion, but keep it to yourself when it comes to religion.

message 23: by Molly (new)

Molly Oh and to all you people saying it's unscientific and fake, if you took the time to do your research you would know that the writers of the bible did not intend for you to take it literally. Not everything in it is scientifically true because they are using parables or stories to explain church teaching. That doesn't mean that every Christian believes Adam and Eve were the first humans. God created the world and everything on it, he knows how science works much better than you do. No offense intended to anybody✌️

message 24: by Layne (new)

Layne Wow! This person actually just posted that. You're right. I echo the " no hope for humanity " sentiment.

message 25: by Pete (new) - rated it 5 stars

Pete Concerning your "Frankly..." lol

message 26: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Winters Vaelin it's extremely offensive to make assumptions on ones sexual orientation because of one picture. You cannot tell that he is gay just from a facial expression. And as for your statement on heaven being closed to him, you have no right to make those assumptions. god conveys the message to tolerate and accept other people for who they are. Yes he says that a man shall not lay with another man, but he then contradicts himself later on. I believe in god, but I also believe in evolution and the fact that homosexuality is something born, not learned. Please learn some tolerance. God would not wish for you to be rude, that is clearly conveyed in the bible.

message 27: by Phil (new)

Phil If Adam & Eve had 2 sons where did the rest of humanity spring from?

Wesley sucker max...

Wesley youre a stupid idiot brock...and your going to hell

Wesley and it is nessaccery to mock you molly

message 31: by Obidiwhite (new)

Obidiwhite I'll advice you Max to reread the bible with an open mind . Start reading from the book of John . I'll like to hear from you so that we can discuss what you learned from reading the bible a second time.

Laurence Li I'm not even a christian and I disagree about the old testament. The priestly narrative (i.e.) the geneologies are pretty dry, but the Jahwist tradition especially is on the level of any of the best greek stories.

message 33: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel Sanchez I like turtles. Global warming is happening cuz Jesus is mad at da Gays! Derp :3

message 34: by Lora (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lora Swafford it hurts me to see people talk so badly of the One who gave them life, who made the place for them to live, who created every part of them. Who knows them better than they know themselves. You're in my prayers. God Bless You

message 38: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Smith All nonbelivers will regret it on judgement day.Instead of wasting your time arguing with each other, dedicate your lives to learning and praising He who created you.I will not judge anyone for their beliefs but don't be ignorant.I am a daughter of Gof and am not shy to shout out to the world that i believe Jesus died to wash away my sins and rose again through the power and grace of God.Do whatever u want but don't ever say no one educated about Him.

message 39: by Abigail (new)

Esther Monplaisir reading the bible as fiction is not very helpful especially reading in book-order. It’s not a story book you can’t read at as one
