The Giver (The Giver, #1)

Jonas lives in a perfect world, where there's no pain, death and loss. At the age of twelve, he's selected to be the receiver of memory. In this job, he learns of how the world used to be, and Jonas soon starts to hate his present reality, and desires to live in the past. Jonas and the Giver then try to work a way out to make the desire of theirs to come true.
I read this book because I heard that there was a movie made for it, and knowing myself I always love to read books and watch movies. I wanted to compare the book and the movie, and see what I thought of both perspectives.
I continued and finished this book because I don't really read many fantasies, and the world in this story is so different from ours, which caught my attention, and kept me reading. I also finished until the end because I liked the plot, and wanted to know how Jonas would've solved his problem.
I recommend this book to Anna, sine I know she loves to read and might like this book.
I wasn't really wowed by this book than how I expected to be, but I still enjoyed it.

“The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.”

"Jonas turns out to not be assigned--but selected, as the reciever, the most important role in the community. He's so astonished and it's only the beggining of his training. What can his future hold?"

"Jonas enjoyed his first day of training, and finally understood what it meant that it could be a little painful. I can't believe it--in the story, no one has ever experienced or heard of snow, sleds, hills, and sunlight. It also mentioned that sunlight USED to come from the sky. How can this be pictured?! I guess after reading this book I could watch the movie, and gain a better understanding."
