This book had a really cool premise. A woman who can't sleep. But this is not a case of insomnia, she just does not need it. At all.
She spends all her nights READING BOOKS. From 10 pm to 6 am, that's all she does. Every day, for seventeen days. Isn't that a dream come true?
I was enjoying it very much. But then, that ending... That was NOT an ending.
I understand it is supposed to be a short story, but still... Nothing was explained.
Maybe the last few pages of my copy went missing. That is the only explanation I can find for that ending.

Crystal In the end, it's mentioned she's distracted by the trees outside, and the men are rocking her car, she thinks the car will tip. To me, this is reminiscent of rockabye baby. Like they're trying to rock her to sleep. Or perhaps wake her up.

Crystal Maybe the car tips and she dies, like the woman earlier in the story when the cop warned her about staying out late by herself. Reminds me of that saying- "I'll sleep when I'm dead."

Arlindorn This novel is meant to be read two times in a row to understand it fully

BENJAMIN LEE Read a synopsis of Anna Karenina and you'll see the paralllels between that and 'Sleep'. Basically the woman is 'cheating' on her normal life by entering an alternate one, one that should not be, and while she has never felt more alive, it'll come back to bite her because it is not sustainable, a kind of 'cheating' on the laws of life. The AK references are a big hint!

Catarina Pedrão This was my exact thought! I really thought I skipped a page
