This 700+ page book was about 200 pages too long. There were so many unnecessary character descriptions and side stories that I began to feel like the author had a page quota to fill. This has to be my biggest pet peeve when it comes to books. Authors should make every paragraph count, otherwise it seems like they are just trying to amuse themselves. Sort of like that friend at the cocktail party who just likes to listen to himself talk. The story was interesting, but not worth the hours I spent reading it.
