did not like it

I am not enjoying this book, in fact more apt to say I am finding it very distasteful. I wont be able to finish it; as someone has said life is too short... Why? It is a book about pop-corn philosophy and psychology and 'the meaning of life' masquarading as a novel. The characters do not feel real, they create no empathy or shared experience for me, they are not credible. Why? Because the author has borrowed the novel form and filled it up with too-smart-by-half observations of life and so none of the characters survive or are credible. Not sure what I mean. read Annie Proux's Heart Songs short stories and there you will find real characters. That's class literature. This is not.
