Branded (Fall of Angels, #1)

This book is Twilight with loose ends and scurry angels. I had such high hopes for you, Book. You let me down. You let me down.
The *instant* that Gorgeous Male Figure #2 steps on the scene, the book dissolves into this sickening love triangle full of washed up tropes and nonsense. There's all this "omg life is so horrible and hard and how will I ever survive (even though I've been doing just fine on my own for the last 4 years) without a man in my life to rescue me every step of the way??" garbage. First world problems, man. Srsly.
And the villain. This villain, man. The villain is bad. He is sooooo bad. He's, like, the worst guy ever. He's so bad that he's totally, like, the *leader* of the bad guys. So bad. Hisssss. I won't tell you what he's done to be bad, but trust me, it's bad. Because he's the villain. And he's bad. Bad, bad, bad. So bad. Rly. There's a *reason* that he's the leader of the bad guys. They don't just give that title away. There's a reason. Swear.
(SPOILERS)
And the thing that he's after? His motivation that drives the story??!?!?! (So evil!) He wants to be ::GASP!:: Jessica's boyfriend!!!!! Dun dun DUNNNNNNNNN!!! OMGCANYOUBELEIVETHISGUY?!?!?! What a tool! He buys her flowers and takes care of her when she's sick and does yoga and EVERYTHING!!! Stay away from this guy; he's dangerous. Or a killer or something. Probably. I mean, I don't know because that's never ever mentioned... but yeah. He's sooper bad n stuff. OH WAIT, no, he did try to kill her crazy, helpless friend by like... gently suggesting that she should take a bunch of pills. But he failed miserably. And she didn't die even in the slightest. And it probably helped her in the long run, honestly, because bitch was cray and probably needed that therapy that she ended up getting. So he's kind of a helpful bad guy. BUT STILL EVIL I SWEAR. *So* evil.
Anyway.... Book goes fine, very promising. Then dude #2 comes in and turns it into a shit fest. Story just DIES and becomes incredibly slow. Nothing happens. Jessica describes her daily life in overly elaborate detail. Sex is a no-no. Emily is pretty much a superfluous character. No character depth. No character development. The bad guy is bad because reasons. Weird things are explained but the explanations only half explain things and don't apply to certain other things because reasons. WTF.
I'm so mad.
This was so promising.
It's like someone with a brain came up with this cool idea and then handed it off to a twelve year old to finish writing. This is probably an entertaining read for tween. Not that I'd recommend it for anyone still even remotely impressionable since it really enforces this "life isn't worth living unless you have a boyfriend" mentality. Pretty awful.
So. Mad.

"I expected this to be terrible, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised. I was also hoping for a focus on freaky angel stuff with a romantic subplot, but it seems to be the other way around. And I'm not even that mad about it. Somehow Alex manages to be this perfect human being and still a completely likable character. Wth? I'm loving that the characters are early 20's rather than teens. They read even more mature"

"This book started going downhill from the moment this weird love triangle thing was introduced. Jessica became a complete Mary Sue."
