This was my first Sandra Brown book and I was expecting a thriller; something that held me glued to the pages as I anxiously read more. That was not the case with "Envy." In hindsight, I should have left it unfinished, but wanted to see how the stories were going to come together.
Grew frustrated that the tempo didn't pick up as the book progressed. If anything, it dragged in several places. I wanted gripping suspense. What I got was a lot of subterfuge, back stabbing, hints and plot building. Some places were frustrating. There were multiple "things" going on inside the book. It was packed with words--too many. Felt it would have flowed faster had it not been so wordy. Reading the internal dialogue of the characters became tedious.
Not enough action.
Very little romance, but I was prepared for more suspense-thriller at the expense of the romance. What I got was neither. Took me a long time to read because just had to put it down and do other things. I felt little compulsion to "get to my book." That's a bummer for this Avid Reader.
Can't reveal much, without posting spoilers.
On the plus side, thought the author did an excellent job with the twists, creating nasty characters and plotting it all down. She obviously knew where she was headed in her writing and that's always nice.
