I loved the writing and really liked hearing Katie's voice as she worked through her struggles. Spin by Catherine McKenzie is a fun book....until it gets a bit too unbelievable.

From the beginning you know that things will work out for Katie, I mean this is a chick-lit, but the way things worked out kind of bugged me. Considering how much she lied, I found it odd how quick everyone was willing to forgive her. There was no real fighting or consequences for her actions. She did bad stuff and got rewarded for it without doing anything to fix things.

I was hoping that by the end of the novel she'd realize that she is an alcoholic and actually needed to go back to rehab and take it seriously this time, but that never happened. Throughout the novel, Katie feels like she doesn't have a problem even though everyone thinks she does and the readers can see her spiraling out of control. She does say that she thinks rehab did something and even though she's attending AA classes, she doesn't really see that she has a problem.

Then again, her alcoholism seemed to cure itself fairly quickly. So maybe she doesn't really have a problem...

The romance didn't do anything for me either, even though I have a soft spot for gingers and the leading male is a ginger. The problem I had with this relationship is that they met at rehab...she's there to get the scoop on Amber (the current It Girl) and he's there because he's the manager of Connor (Amber's on again off again boyfriend) and Connor can't do anything with Henry by his side. He's clean, she isn't and that's fine. The problem with this pairing is that Katie is great at manipulating people to do what she wants and Henry is great at enabling bad behaviour. Even though they like each other, I don't see how they can last long considering this glaring personality quirks.

I think the first half of the book is great, but the last half, when she's out of rehab, kind of loses its steam.
