Book 1 of series. Its the story of Skylar MacKenna and Zack Hunter. 10 years ago Zack and Sky met at the annual rodeo. They fall in love and it looks like they'll marry. One night Zack walks in on his stepfather beating the shit out of his mother. After growing up with a father who also beat all of them, he looses it and beats his stepfather almost to death. He isn't charged with a crime but he feels like he's grown up just like his dad. So he leaves town and Sky. She is heartbroken and it takes a couple years to recover. She has tried to date others but no one can replace Zack. Now Zack is an Agent with immigration and Border Patrol. He moved back to town for to find Sky and make her his again. She will not let herself loose her heart to him again. He will not back down though. One of the reasons he's back is he is working on a cattle rustling case that involves Sky's ranch and her herd. As they work on this case she does come to trust him again.
