Liz Oneill's Reviews > Pope Joan
Pope Joan

It is obvious that the author did a great deal of research as evidenced at the end of the novel. For the most part I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I believe there was a Pope Joan and feel the author has built a good case. There was quite a bit of suspense which I look for in a novel. There were many lagging sections but some of it I just skipped through. I know the politics of the times drove much of the plot. However in a "tunnel vision" mode of reading, I just wanted to get Joan made Pope and see how it ended. The end seemed so far away. When it finally came, with the politically tense climate, it was very well written and very believable.

"The early treatment of Joan is quite violent but this seems to go with the Viking times. I can begin to see how this home treatment and in some ways worse at the Schola are what drive her. I look forward to see how she continues to actually deceive some of these very biased and often brutal males."
