Some complaints are that it has stilted dialogue and can be a boring read. Several people have given it a one star rating. I actually enjoyed the story. It was well written, well thought out, and told two stories at the same time. It told the modern expedition as well as the historical context events very well. Eventually it pulls the two stories together in a pretty convenient way. (Read classic trope). Albeit a little predictable toward the end, I have to say that I enjoyed this book and would read it again.
