** spoiler alert ** The Terrorist’s Son: A Story of Choice _ Zak Ebrahim with Jeff Giles

According to ŷ apps, I read this book almost a decade ago. 😅 I vividly remembered that my dad gave me the book to read. He listened to Zak's TED Talk and found this book. After I read the book, I just wrote a brief review.

This is my short review. ‘A heartbreaking book.
The love and hope that Z bought throughout his childhood and believing in his father when he was young. Things fell apart when he realized the truth from his beloved mother. A great story.
The last sentence broke my heart "We are not his children anymore.”

Well I was not that လျှာရှည at that time. 😂 But let me be more လျှာရှည.

The book still broke my heart. When his father got arrested, I was sad along with little Zak (He was only 7 years old at that time). I was also upset when his father plotted the WTC bombing and felt sorrow for Zak. This time, I felt bad for his mom too. It was the right decision to get divorced with Zak’s father. However, it was a wrong choice to re-married again. When I read the chapters about being physically and mentally abused by Zak’s stepdad, it was really difficult to turn pages. I was also angry at his mom. How come she dragged the whole family in this pitch dark hole?! But she did her best to protect her family in the end.

I think I will never understand the choice Zak’s father made. In this book, Zak also mentioned that his father chose to be an extremist over the family. If he wanted to be an extremist, he shouldn’t marry and have children then. How come he did not think for his family, especially the children. According to the book, Zak’s father is still in a denial stage for his wrongdoings.

I’m glad that Zak and his siblings did not follow his father’s footsteps. I’m glad that Zak chose non-violence over violence. On top of that he chose his family over everything.

I wish, the book warned us in the beginning that the story contained domestic violence, suicidal, and self harm.

“What defines my world is love for my family and friends, the moral conviction that we must all be better to one another and to the generations that will come after us, and the desire to undo some of the damage my father had done in whatever small ways I can.
