it was amazing

This is a brilliant Star Wars novel which - as some of the story line is mentioned by Palpatine in Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith is now considered canon but also has elements that have now (thanks to Disney) been shifted into the legendary category (the vexed matter of what is canon!). No matter - this is a brilliant cracking story which focuses on how Palpatine was drawn to the Dark Side of the Force by his master Darth Plagueis to become the hooded Darth Sidious and doomed Emperor. Behind this is the equally interesting narrative of Plagueis's attempt to break the Sith tradition of master and apprentice (established by Darth Bane) and subvert both fate and death (what happens - no spoilers). As with his Tarkin, I found Luceno's use of elements of the mythos established by the films (and other texts) very inventive as he fleshes out characters and gives this key story-line in the mythos more historic and narrative depth. Having read this, I have a better understanding of the much discussed midi-chlorians and what the 'grand plan' of the Sith was. Highly recommend for any lover of the Star Wars mythos
