I feel sorry for readers awarding this one star based on "I guessed who the killer was"- that completely ignores Hawkins' skill with prose descriptions, pacing and, especially, characterisation. All these raise this book from a mediocre whodunit, where the sole purpose is to guess.
Then again, I'm rather envious that these folks have obviously never read a truly awful book, if this is the worst they've ever read.

"While I've never been an alcoholic nor a divorcee, I identify with this protagonist. Holy hell. Her overhearing Cathy's boyfriend remarking that nobody is desperate enough to date her kind of ripped me to shreds."

""I'm not beautiful, and I can't have kids, so what does that make me? Worthless." Oh, my word. People deriding this book purely on the basis of "I worked out whodunit on page blah-di-blah" are missing so much, I think."
