John, I read this book back in 1994 I believe. I loved it so much that I did not want to see the movie. I wanted to keep the "movie" I saw from the book in my head. My favorite line in the book was when the attorney said the client had to give money to her to retain her so the boy handed her a dollar. "Now I'm retained." or something like that. I LOVED this book!

A Time to Kill is still my favorite of all
This was the first of your books I read. Loved it!
Read this book years ago. Still remember it as a great read.

Those were the ones that made me an instant fan! And now, my fan-sense is being tested severely, again and again... sigh!
That's one of my favourite "Graham novels", another one is The Chamber.
I agree with Kristina. A Time to Kill is also my favorite Grisham book!
For me The Testament is the best still!
This was the very first book I read of John Grisham and from then it was unstoppable!
I own all of your books, but behind in reading them. The client was my favorite reminding me so much of Mississippi and its legal system. I just retired after 50 years as a legal assistant/paralegal in Mississippi Coast area. There were only a couple I didn't care for out of all the ones you have written. It is so hard to say this one was the best, but I usually give those I enjoy the high rating. Movies: A Time to Kill and The firm.

Lol, “knew the ending...�. Read just about all your books but The Chamber is still my favourite.
Read that book in one sitting and it cost me a pair of brand new blue jeans... Started it in the morning after the first load of laundry, was so engrossed that forgot the final load in the dryer, went to get it after I finished the book, to realized someone had swiped my jeans!! But still have the book :)

Hahah Mr Grisham, nice one :-) ... I had read this book in the 90s and picked it up again a week ago. Finished it in 2 days! Now my daughter is reading it :-) .. Its a great story!
The beginning was hard American slang English for me the very first time I read it, as I was 11. But I had managed to read Shakespeare by 7. American English vocabularies have more words, which makes sense as they are older as a society than English, particularly when it comes to "Legal Humanism", as the only two English jurists who were almost and not yet old enough as American jurists, were Hobbes and Locke, who however became foreign citizens due to the persecutions, so it made sense years later.
