The Rats (Rats, #1)

The gist of this book is killer rats spreading over London and attacking the population. Simple, direct and nightmare inspiring, especially if rats are not your favourite animals. Except I was a little disappointed by this book. Normally I find Herberts books chilling and even sometime hard to read when Im in the house on my own. I felt like this book didnt have any real suspense to it. The characters just stumbled from one rat attack to the next with no real sense of the over whelming horror you would feel if London today was taken over by huge aggressive rats. I also found the ending to be a bit too much as it just seemed in the last page a decision was made to try and leave it open for more books set in this world without any real thought as to whether it made sense or not.
I would recommend other Herbert books over this one. But reading The Rats hasn't put me of Herbert at all.
