Dying on the Vine: How Phylloxera Transformed Wine

I chose this book because I am interested not only in wine, but also in the history and philosophy of science. I suppose my expectations were unreasonable: I wanted a thoughtful discussion of the relationship between human technology and the biological world, and some argument about the significance of Big Science. Instead of the critical analysis I hoped for, the book delivered a detailed account of what various people and institutions did over the years in response to the outbreak of phylloxera. Some of it was interesting to read, but I think without a theoretical framework to hang it on, this information will quickly fall out of my brain.
