** spoiler alert **
I think this was a likable book until about page 250. The book started off with tight writing, interesting characters and plot.
But then it got whiny and pathetic. The book became ridiculous for too many reasons. The author went too far in trying to create antipathy for some of the characters and sympathy for others. This nonsense on page 317 sums it up: "Not only am I unemployed and homeless, but I also have a pregnant woman, bereaved dog, elephant and eleven horses to take care of". I think the intended effect here was exaggerated to say the least.
The ending was trite and childish. I think the author forgot that she and her readers are intelligent: these antics are not necessary to keep readers interested.
I think . r a c h a b e t h .'s review couldn't have said it better.
