Rebecca...calculating and deceitful to the very end. I think she knew all along her fate. That is why she did the unspeakable and did whatever it took to make life fun and enjoyable, for herself at everyones expense.
The new Mrs deWinter, in the first 20 chapters has no sense of self worth. It takes a horrific knowledge of an event to kick her out of the child-like state she was in.
Mr deWinter? I am still not sure why he went along with Rebecca's ploy of marriage other than to see Manderley at its finest.
The last 7 chapters are the climax. I must say I had a hard time setting the book down even for a second!
Seems that all the folks around the deWinter's knew how dishonorable Rebecca's behavoir was and they forgave Mr deWinter of a sin that should have been unconscionable.
When we think all is well for the deWinter's and life will be finally happy for both, then what rears its head? Revenge!
