Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Aristotle and Dante, #1)

If I had read this when I was in the 14-15 age range, it would have impacted me powerfully. In that regard, it's a good book.
The writing style was--to me--uninspired. I understand it's supposed to be coming from the mind of a 15-17 year old, but no one really talks like that. Scripted, extremely to the point dialogue doesn't exist in the real world. Switching between poetic prose and the most point-blank back and forth dialogue, this book seemed confused as to what it was trying to be, and went for everything. I get it, Ari is an angry, closed-off soul, and Dante is free. Ari wants to be free. He wants to swim and be happy and love, but he doesn't know how because of secrets and his childhood and family life. Dante is free and happy for the opposite reasons. The metaphors in the book sort of smacked you in the face. Do you get it, do you get it? I get it, I got it book, you're witty, you're deep.
But, meh. Was it? I warmed up towards the end, but the prose was not interesting or enjoyable to read. The only thing that kept me interested was wondering what would happen between the main characters. I liked them, but I didn't like how they, or anyone else was presented.
Basically, I loved the concept and hated the execution. 3/5
