it was amazing
bookshelves: read-from-shelf, ebook

Very close to 5 stars, because it is perfect, except for the investigation in the middle that didn't happen in any realistic way (or else all of the cops should have been fired).
There are several crazy surprises in this book, there are strong emotions, there is a roller coaster where Daphne du Maurier shows clear route in one direction and then turns 180 degrees to the other. Fun and exciting.
Unlike some other reviewer I also the liked the first 200 pages, I think they were written even better than the rest of the novel. It might be that it is better written because the rest is a much faster pace part.

Oh, Rebecca. I read her name so differently throughout different parts of this novel. A dead woman that has almost magical powers on the living. Rebecca, that with her death left her husband, and our narrator, his new wife, struggling to go on. So hard to live in the shadow of the dead.

Brilliantly written, ignore the parts in the unprofessional investigation and you are going to enjoy every word. So still 5 stars, because she is a genius.

Dolors Great review, Liza. I love the para where you explore the evolution of Rebecca, this powerful presence that haunts the nameless narrator. Incredible how the real protagonist is the memory of a woman rather than the very same narrator, witness of the story.

Deyanne Fabulous review. I savored this book and I remember that on a rereading a long, long time ago as I was nursing a baby, I stayed up all night reading it. Like you, I think it was brilliant. Laughing, I share your thoughts about the investigation. I just let that slide. The psychological aspects were amazing. Probably worth another reread...although I doubt I will stay up all night this time around.

Dean Cummings Wonderful review Liza...Thanks, Dean

Will Ansbacher Couldn't agree more about the investigation!
