Despite reading some negative reviews about this book, I absolutely loved it.
The book portrays a kid's view of the world so new to him, in a very simple, stripped-down manner, that it humbles you to think of our own actions.
I chose to rate it 4 because I would've loved to see, at least a chapter, that told the story from Ma's perspective. It would've been hard, but might've completed the circle here.
Another reason for me to wish that, is that I would've loved to read some good, evolved English language. I see the reason in writing the book in a child's perspective will have such errors and can never be as good. But I read books primarily to improve my hold on language.
In contrast to that, the context clearly outweighs all that. It so strongly holds you together that we feel the hurt from all the actions and inactions given in the book. Kudos to the author for that!!
