The Odyssey

I'm fascinated by the Trojan War, however, I wasn't sure what to expect with The Oddysey. Homer is not known as light reading, and though my fave book is War and Peace (meaning: Tolstoy is not light reading either), I expected this epic poem written before the common era to be on a whole other level. It starts out somewhat strange on the tongue, something you have to get the hang of to fully grasp. Yet after a small handful of pages it starts to sing and is as easy to read as any other book. A fantastic story of a man and his family, with all the pathos and core relevance of a novel in any era (times change, the human condition remains the same). Adding a dose of the mythology of those times gives the epic poem a sprinkling of magic. Excellent plot along with fantastic characters, pitch, and pace, make this an engaging 5 star read. Recommended.
