really liked it

Edith Hind, a Cambridge graduate is missing. An apartment search produces blood splatter in the kitchen, a broken wine glass, and coats in disarray on the floor. No evidence of forced entry. The door left open.

Cambridgeshire Detective Sergeant Manon Bradshaw and her team investigate Edith's disappearance. There are few leads. Edith's boyfriend has an alibi. He was visiting his parents at the time of her disappearance. Her best friend was the last one to see her.

Written in the style of a police procedural mystery, the CSI team thoroughly canvasses the surrounding area. Manon questions Edith's parents Sir Ian Hind, surgeon to the Royal Family, and wife Miriam Hind. She checks cell phones and laptops, all seemingly .to no avail. When a body is found by the river near the Hind's second home, things start to heat up.

Although Susie Steiner's tome Missing Presumed was a good read, I found it to be formulaic. Manon Bradshaw's vulnerabilities and hangups were explored as were the conventional emotional issues of her team. Manon's character , however, was well developed. The roller coaster of fear and hope felt by the Hind family was palpable.
The media coverage was frenzied. The relationships were complicated. Ms. Steiner did a good job having her characters gather the threads of evidence essential to resolving the case.
