The strength of this coming-of-age novel is the focus on the action and by reflection the feelings of the characters. A straightforward clear writing style without any "tricks", a nearly totally chronological flow. My only issue was that there were so many characters- friends, family members and others- rather difficult to remember who was who (I tended to get Antonio and Alfonso mixed up). This is rather like real life though isn't it?
