May 2016

I'm ill today, so I will write a review of this later (and possibly on my blog). Two thoughts: one, somewhat unexpectedly, Tamlin is not in the vast majority of this book, as in, he's around for the first 150 pages then not again until the end; two, this entire book is basically Feyre yelling "hell no" at any existence where she doesn't get to make her own choices, and deciding to be her own person. Which is... nice. And Rhysand is a lot nicer than I remembered him being: more respectful, more caring, more feminist. He is all about the choices and free will (weird as it seems after some of what happened in b1). It was interesting to see the other side of the mind games being played out before. I would probably need to reread b1 to have a full appreciation of it, but I liked this. The sex was... not entirely my thing, but it wasn't too obnoxious either.

EDIT: You can find my full review of this book on my blog.

Okay wow I forgot how dramatic that ending was. And a lot of the details, to be honest. Glad I reread this, though it's made me even more impatient for b3.

Sarah J. Maas
“You can be a pawn, be someone’s reward, and spend the rest of your immortal life bowing and scraping and pretending you’re less than him, than Ianthe, than any of us. If you want to pick that road, then fine. A shame, but it’s your choice.â€ The shadow of wings rippled again. “But I know you—more than you realize, I think—and I don’t believe for one damn minute that you’re remotely fine with being a pretty trophy for someone who sat on his ass for nearly fifty years, then sat on his ass while you were shredded apart—â€

“Stop it—

“Or,â€ he plowed ahead, “you’ve got another choice. You can master whatever powers we gave to you, and make it count. You can play a role in this war. Because war is coming one way or another, and do not try to delude yourself that any of the Fae will give a shit about your family across the wall when our whole territory is likely to become a charnel house.â€ I stared”

“I’m surprised there aren’t more mirrors in this house, since you seem to love looking at yourself so much.â€ Azriel”

There's already been one sex scene that I didn't particularly care for but ehhh, maybe the others will be more interesting. Rhysand's sudden appearance amidst Feyre's self-hatred was certainly dramatic."
