Great book. yet again. Austen knows romance.
I will not, as i have decided, go quite in depth over the fabulousness of this book.
However, i will make a critique.
the book consistently anticipates marianne and Willoughby. And the heartbreak. And the rejection. And the desolation. etc etc.
what is disappointing is the ending.
Because I was expecting a great ending with much dialogue. Particularly with marianne and Colonel Brandon.
You see, i wanted to see how marianne falls in love with him. how he sweeps her off her feet. etc etc.
instead the ending is focused on elinor, who really does deserve it for her fortitude and propriety. But we really do not see any development between edward and elinor in the beginning of the book. we see no dialogue. hardly any communication. So the ending based on her was off. like off in taste kind of thing.
it is assumed that they like each other in the beginning of the book. and that is precisely based on third party evaluation- such as the mother and elinor and fanny. which is problematic because readers want to know HOW. rather than just throw it in my face and ask me to comprehend it without any content.
so conclusively, yes great novel.
i was just expecting a greater ending. directed towards more depth as to the lives of marianne. I do not mind knowing elinor and edwards relationship. but Austen should of at least in the beginning given more depth to their lives as it intertwined and what not.
Rather is was a slop. Colonel brandon deserved much attention as elinor did. He really is a top block.
Modern men- pay attention to brandon!

"Colonel Brandon! He speaks to Elinor about her sisters affections being quite sincere for Willoughby.. that they are engaged. How sad!!!
Men in respect to Brandon are far beyond me. To find men like him to exist in his mannerisms!! Its like a dagger to the heart! Men in the modern world come up very very short."

"Firstly, Willoughby.. from the moment i read your stinking ass I hated you. Get over him marianne. For goodness sake! Brandon is a better man! I would have him for myself if and only if he existed."
