Frida: A Biography of Frida Kahlo
by
I am a big fan of Frida Kahlo and am actually very disappointed with Hayden Herrera's approach to writing this biography. This book is just impossible to read - the author only focuses on Frida's dysfunctional relationships with Diego Rivera, constantly accusing Frida of being obsessed, but, as mentioned above, Frida Kahlo was more than that. Frida was an artist, a rebel, a feminist - and the author pays no or little attention to these aspects of Frida's personality. The author is not able to show any empathy towards Frida. She portrays Kahlo as needy, selfish and obsessive and makes some really inappropriate comments on Frida's letters... Very disappointing book - would not recommend it to anyone.
