This is a novel dedicated to love. Marquez's way of writing was simple but so full of magic. I was suddenly transported into the beautiful streets in Cartagena, with those colorful colonial houses and the beautiful landscape. He exposes first love as something unbreakable, an unbreakable promise made by Florentino when he was just a teen. He promised Fermina true love even if he needed to way until the end of his life. 'Love in the times of Cholera' also allows us to understand that in fact love is not really different from cholera; it shares the same symptoms and we finally get to know those two sick characters, but not from the horrendous sickness , cholera, (which was really popular during that time) but from true love, a difficult one, a prohibited one, an authentic one.. the love between Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza.
