I forgot I hadn’t reviewed this book. I forgot some of it but I remember that this book kind of destroyed what hope I had in the series. The first book was so promising then it lost some it touches on the second book and it really disappointed me in this third book. The story and the plot is okay but the execution is poor. The characters doesn’t really develop and it felt just bland. I especially lost respects to Mare, which is fatal since she is supposed to be the center of the fights and the main character. I don’t know what happened with her. It’s as if even the author couldn’t decide what to do with her. She’s horribly not consistent. Especially during the first half of the book where she’s in the king’s cage. She always talks of how she hates Maven and wants to kill him. She acts so proud and hating, challenging everyone but she’ll hide behind Maven the second real threat comes. She even begs him to help her. Really, what kind of personality is that? I really disappointed in her. Cal too, is still himself and I still can’t like him much. But at least Cameron shares my thoughts of him :p
The story also has a relatively slow pace so it’s kind of tiring at the beginning. And knowing that there will be a fourth book seriously, I thought it would be a trilogy. The story is getting long and the characters inconsistent. I am not as excited with another sequel as I was with the second and third book but if there is to be a fourth book, I really do hope it’ll be better because honestly, I loved this series and I do hope to love it again.

The fallen prince is exhausting. I don’t know how Mare could stand him or his inability to choose a damned side—especially when there’s only one side he can possibly pick.
