The Princess Bride

Pretty close to perfection.
I read this in 8th grade and wanted to revisit it for a specific, personal reason. We had to keep a reading journal for English class, and I recall very clearly writing about how much I loved this book. My teacher's note back to me said it sounded like I was describing a passion for science fiction and subsequently assigned a few titles in that genre. Upon giving sci-fi a chance, my next journal entry was about how I wasn't really loving it. My teacher gave me a C - a C?!?! gasp - and said if I didn't like the books I shouldn't have continued reading them.
So a couple things:
1. Obviously my English teacher was a little too sensitive.
2. Wouldn't it be more logical to assume I liked fantasy?
3. Upon this second reading as an adult, it's clear what I like about "The Princess Bride" is William Goldman's satirical-yet-shootin'-straight writing style.
Five stars for William Goldman. Three stars for the genre.
