4.5 stars. This has to be my fave book of the series.

Fairest is disturbing and depressing, but those aspects resulted in a resolution of TLC's chief flaws� the Disney shine and focus on romantic relationships� and led to an exceptionally well-written, character-driven book.

Marissa Meyer is a very creative author, and she's quite talented, but some of her books work too hard for that Disney shine. This one does not. Horrible things happen, and they are not ever ignored or glossed over in favor of romance (which I feel is a flaw in Winter especially). Levana's romance plot is itself massively fucked up, which helps.

Meyer also does some great character work here. You feel genuine sympathy for Levana despite her being such a horrible person. She's so tortured and clearly not entirely mentally stable, it's hard not to feel for her.

I really highly recommend this book for fans of TLC.
