Invitation to a Beheading

A novel about the experiences of a man in a prison cell who has been sentenced to death. Through flashbacks, we read about his life prior to his having been sentenced. More interesting, however, are the man鈥檚 thoughts about his experiences in the prison, where he begins to believe that his imprisonment is the result of a conspiracy. The work might be read as an instance of black humor: while the narrator of the novel is essentially sympathetic to the protagonist鈥檚 situation, he frequently calls attention to way in which that situation could be viewed as comic.
