A lot's been written already but really, how much can you say. Connections to a number of other post apocalypse fiction works: "A Boy and His Dog", "Damnation Alley", "The Stand", "Dawn of the Dead" etc. By limiting his mystical stream-of-words digressions CM drives home the basic point: We ain't much and we ain't done much that ain't destructive ultimately but there's a kernel of goodness there that might persevere.
