Kushiel's Dart (Phèdre's Trilogy, #1)

A perfect blend of fantasy and BDSM erotica, in my opinion. The story itself is fascinating, even without the titillating scenes. The main character has a greater power driving her actions, but she still somehow seems relatable and has to deal with so many trials that you can't help but feel for her by the end. I also love that the story is written in first person, almost as a memoir, but the voice is so descriptive, it really feels like you're there, in the world.
A lot of people may not like this book because of the BDSM element, but they should keep in mind that this is a world where sex and prostitution is viewed a particular way. If you keep in mind the context of the story and the world in which the characters live, it should be apparent how natural this all is. I believe the writing also draws you in enough that you should understand this on your own if you read the full series.
I've re-read this series several times, and I enjoy it every time.
