I read the book after watching the movie. It is indeed one of very few books where the movie doesn't depart much from the story & details of the book.
The story is magically awkward & unusual!
Much of its power & charm spring from the author's impressive & mesmerizing ability of descriptions, especially of the olfactory realm.
Amazing how smells are described & categorized in such lively ways that they seem characters on their own.
I read the book in English & I got the feeling that the style of writing & describing is not of an English writer..and I was right;)
I enjoyed this creepy book though I should have enjoyed it more if I read it prior to watching the film;)
