A Discovery of Witches (All Souls, #1)

This is a rather large real book so it will take me forever since I am not going to tote it around. I am really enjoying it so far.
Rating should be 2.5 Stars but that is not an option.
It started good but then it got bogged down with weirdness. Diana changed from a normal educated woman who one that mutters annoying lines like "but I LOOOOOOOVE him". That whole blood/tree/dying scene was way too "Twilight" for a 30 something.
I also felt like there was an underlying gay agenda in the book. Don't get me wrong, I have gay friends but when a book tells me twice that "creatures should be able to love who they want" I feel like I'm being preached to. Anyone who knows me knows that I do not react well to being preached to.
I'm an ex-Catholic and I walked out of a yoga place I grouponed because they kept preaching something called Vendata. I don't like agendas even when I agree with them.
I had to knock off a star for being too blatant about having an agenda. I just want to have a good time and speaking of a good time... the relationship is NEVER consummated. That was annoyingly frustrating. It also ends right in the middle of the story - hence another star knocked off.
In short, the book could have been shorter; it could have been less preachy and it could have had a real ending.
