This. Book. Brings. Tears.
No, I'm serious. Just cry and cry at the ending. And then go watch the BBC movie adaptation. Both the book and the movie are amazing.
What really traps you into LOVING this book is the child-like innocence and curiosity of Bruno (the main character). You connect with Bruno very easily because we've all been children who haven't known any better when something bad is happening.
I would just recommend this beautiful book to all readers. Extremely touching, heart-breaking and uniquely written.
