** spoiler alert **
Alright, first things first, I must applaud Sarah J. Maas for thinking of all this ingenious plot twists that just leave me feeling flabbergasted and dumbfounded more times than I could count!
It's like the minute you think that things are gonna go fine and dandy then Sarah's just like NOPE .
I think after Rowan made his first appearance in this book, there was never a dull moment lol I didn't even have enough time to catch a breath before something tense happens (my palms were literally sweating from the tenseness of everything going on in the book towards the end)
(Before I continue, I must apologize for the mess of this review bc I'm still trying to get my thoughts together and they're gonna be all over the place in this review because I have no idea where to begin and how to continue, so I'm really sorry if there are any abrupt change of direction of this review hahahah)
I'm so happy that none of my fav characters died in this book (well, except for Ress and Brullo... I'm not too attached to them but it's still pretty devastating to see them dead considering how they're still loyal to Chaol)
We've finally gotten to learn more about Arobynn and boy oh boy is he a cunning snake. Although I can't decide if he or Aelin is more cunning I'm just so glad that he's out of the picture now.
Whilst we are on the subject of death, I totally didn't see the King's last words coming! And I'm not sure whether or not to believe what he said. If there's anything I learned from reading this series (so far), it's to trust no one because I feel like everyone keeps lots of secret from everyone else and when you least expect it, they're gonna drop that bomb on you like it's nothing.
If what the king said was the truth, then I honestly couldn't care less if he died or not because the real enemy here is Perrington! I'm so angry that he and Vernon survived the (partial) destruction of Morath! They should've died after what Kaltain did!! And Kaltain omg, I'm so proud of her for being able to fight the demon infiltrating her body (although I'm not a huge fan of her character tbh)!
And Elide! I'm looking forward to read more about her (although I may or may not have read a spoiler about her on the internet because I was too damn impatient... why do I always do this to myself???)
As well as Manon and her thirteen! Honestly I'm just really glad that I've finally come around to enjoy her POV because in Heir of Fire I felt really bored reading her POVs and had a strong urge to skip all her chapters lol
Asterin's little backstory made me tear up a bit and I seldom cry/tear up when reading! Of all the books I've read, who would've thought that THIS BOOK would make me tear up! Her backstory also made me really hate Manon's grandmother *adds her to the list of characters I'd prefer dead*
I'm very relieved that Dorian is saved from that horrid Valg Prince! Honestly, I can't wait for everyone to find out that the Valgs can't stand looking into Manon's (or any of the witches') golden eyes, I'm sure that would help them defeat the valg in some way, perhaps ease the process more.
Aelin and Dorian's scene in the glass castle was just epic . I have nothing else to say about that besides this.
I'm also really really really happy that Chaol and Dorian are finally reunited(?) again like I missed their bromance and I'll definitely be looking forward to more of their scenes together in the next book! (And also more of Chaol and Nesryn PLEASE!)
Oh and before I forget, it's great to see Chaol finally moving on from Celaena and accepting her for who she is! That very last scene where they said their goodbyes when Chaol asked to take a look at her fire, it just made me super happy...
Right, I have so much more things to say about this but that would probably take ages so I'm just gonna end this review with one last thing:
My FAVOURITE scenes from the whole book (call me lame or cliche or whatever I couldn't care less) are definitely Rowan and Aelin's scene when they're together. Be it when they're in Aelin's bedroom or when they have those eye-contact-conversation-thingy, I LOVE THEM ALL.
Yes, I even enjoyed they times they gave each other the cold shoulder (sort of?) when Rowan asked Aelin not to touch her like that.
Just give me more RowanxAelin action please! Yes I've become RowanxAelin trash (but seriously tho sorry for not knowing but, what's their ship name??).
The only thing that annoys me is that they're in denial of their feelings towards each other for like the entire book even towards the end when Aelin called Rowan her friend irritates me to no end like *scoffs* Friends, yeah right!
Even Aedion knows what's up with the two of them smh. I'm quite curious what was it that Rowan claimed Aedion could smell from him... did his desire for Aelin give off some sort of distinct scent?? idk but I feel like I'm the only one who's too dumb to catch what that meant exactly...
To wrap everything up, I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH EVEN THOUGH I WAS SO STRESSED OUT HALF OF THE TIME WHILE READING IT!
Can't wait to jump right into Empire of Storms!

Guess there's no breath-catching for me for a while at least lol"

Asterin's backstory made me tear up (who would've known?! I rarely tear up/cry when I read but of all the books I've read, I didn't expect this one to be tear-jerking! Or perhaps I'm just tired because it's like 12am and I should be sleeping but instead here I am, unable to put down this book!!)"
