I had read a couple of books by Hunter S Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Songs of the Doomed) but knew only a few details of his life. This account is a cleverly edited collection of first-person anecdotes from people who knew Thompson at various stages in his life. Definitely one of the more extreme cases of a troubled genius. There's plenty of stories that don't reflect too well on him but also huge admiration for his creativity and bizarre humor. Highly recommended, and I'm inspired to go read a lot more of his writing now.
