** spoiler alert **
3.5 However i'm lowering my goodreads rating to a 3 instead of leaving it at a 4 because this book has it's flaws
Disclaimer: This series is one of my all time faves so,even though there are things about this book that I didn't agree with, I am in no way bashing anyone who did enjoy this book more than I did, or SJM as an author. This review is simply something that I can look back on in the future as a reminder of my thought process whilst I was reading...
The things that I did NOT enjoy about this book are as follows:
-Feyre's family (Which grew on me later in the series but pissed me off in this because they were completely useless and offered almost nothing to the story. Someone SHOULD have stepped up and taught Feyre to read and write or, at the very least helped her out around the house instead of sitting around and letting her do all of the hard work on her own) I HAD forgotten about Nesta going after Feyre and resisting Tamlin's glamour though, so I suppose that's something...
-It lacks diversity (Everyone knows this already but i'm mentioning it again for my own benefit because it wasn't something I paid enough attention to the first time I read this book)
-The only good thing that happened on Calanmai was Feyre meeting Rhysand. The "Great Rite" and Tamlin's disgusting behavior being explained away due to "faerie magic" or something ridiculous like that made me extremely uncomfortable. The fact that she got pleasure out of him behaving the way he did blows my mind
-There are a lot of lies and misinformation that I either overlooked or simply don't get touched on until later in the series
-Amarantha (This one should explain itself)
If you're having trouble with this book and are unsure about whether or not you should continue with this series I highly recommend pushing through it if you can because the second book is SOOO much better than this one.. It's no secret that i'm trash for faerie books and there are things that I DO enjoy about this one in particular but i'm not going to get into those right now because I would be here all night... Basically it's a decent book with a fairly interesting plot and characters that you're either trash for or couldn't care less about...
Feyre:"You saved my life."
Rhys:"And through your life, I saved Tamlin's."
Feyre:"Why?"
Rhys:He winked, smoothing his blue-black hair. "That, Feyre, is the real question, isn't it?"

I've been putting off re reading this for a while now (even though it's obvious that I really want to) because I've been nervous about it not holding up to the 4 stars I initially gave it... Gonna annotate it this time around and write some sort of review on it"
