Ruin and Rising (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy, #3)

Rating: 2.5/5, Meh 😑
So, this is the conclusion of the Grisha Trilogy, to me it was just a bit (half a star) better than the second one, just because there's a bit more action in here.
My biggest problem with this trilogy (all of the books), is its shallowness, it lacks depth. We got glimpses of a great story with a cool mythology and a promise of a awesome villain and a badass reluctant hero's journey, but it all stayed at the surface. Instead we got a laughable, dark and brooding villain with a ridiculous name, an unfinished portrait of a myth and an insecure, weak attempt of a heroine.
The pacing was a little better but it still had a lot of boring parts. Mal was better, Alina was way worse; she had a regression, so whiny, annoying, insecure and a joke of a heroine and a leader. The Darkling was a caricature, the same he has been in all the books, so underdeveloped and flat. Nikolai and the rest of the characters were good but not awesome, memorable or unique.
To me this could've been a duology or even a long stand alone book, and I think that way it could've been better. The only thing that interested me was Morozova's story, I wanted more of that.
I'm all for happy endings in my fiction, I loved them, but I think this story needed more drama, a heartbreak. (view spoiler) . All was wrapped up in a neat little bow, too happy, too perfect, too fake.
I didn't expect much from this book or the trilogy and I still am very disappointed, I see an intriguing world, an exotic and exiting setting and a fascinating mythology. I see the potential wasted in a boring plot, filled with uninteresting day to day activities, weak and generic characters and a underwhelming ending.
I give 2.5/5 stars to the entire trilogy. To me is just meh. I do not recommend it
