it was amazing
bookshelves: favorites, dystopia, read-in-high-school-class

Basic Plot: Winston Smith rebels against a dystopian government.

There are many people who say we are living this novel, and there are times when I honestly agree. The current US administration (president 45) has driven a lot of people to read or reread this novel and talk about it in terms of current events. On one hand, I get excited that people are reading one of my favorite books of all time, one that has had a profound impact on me ever since I first read it when I was a freshman in high school. On the other hand, I am utterly terrified.

I could sit and analyze for hours the impact of Big Brother on our daily lives through concerns of privacy in social media, data mining, cameras on streets, and the amount of data available on any given person to anyone with a little know how. I could wax on for literal days about government and media entities who lie and make lies part of their daily business (Fox News).

I think Orwell would be horrified that we didn't heed his warnings.
