A casual fan of Leonard's crime novels, I was interested to read his earlier Western Work. I bought an ancient copy of this for 60 cents from a used bookstore an it's sat upon my shelf for a year or so before I finally picked it up. Very glad I did.
This is a quick read, most could polish it off in a day, but it also moves along quickly. Leonard is great at (as he says) not writing the parts readers skip over. This book tells the tale of a tough, hardened man. There's some surprises within, and some good characters.
This book was just great. I don't think I've ever read a Western before, so I'm glad my first was a terrific, fun read.
