This book was my first Steampunk read and it was entertaining. The story was fast paced and engaging. Although, there are bits of the story that left me confused. For example, I never quite grasped Blue's motivation for the initial destruction he caused. I never got the connection between the money and the destructive "test-run". I wish Blue's character had been revealed more. His spirit was such a presence in the book I wanted to understand him better if for no other reason than to more fully understand the destruction of the city and Briar.
