Netflix, Hulu, and those types of providers have a weird way of sucking viewers in and getting them hooked on something they would have never otherwise watched/read. I saw the trailer for the mini series and was intrigued, then I the first episode...and was hooked. I decided I didn't want to watch anymore until I read the book so I instantly got it on Amazon and devoured it.
Ok here's the honest stinken truth. I don't read much outside the mystery/psychological thriller/suspense genre. It is VERY hard for me to go off the beaten path of thee norm. I mean sure, I have read Harry Potter, some of GOT, and Hunger Games, but it's the visualsfrom the movies/shows that helped me. Honestly, if I had just picked up this book with no knowledge of it or clue what to picture, it would've been super fargen hard to read.
This was seriously one of the most ...ugh....horrifying books ever. It was written in 1985, which I am sure was a time of a few issues (not sure I wasn't born), but in today's society...with today's president....this book was all too real and mirrors some of the scary events of today.
I am not going to get into the politics of this book, because that's not why you should read it. The characters leap off the pages. You FEEL for Offred. You turn and turn the pages in eagerness to find out what will happen. That's why you should read this.
I will say this...holy cliffhanger Batman!
