** spoiler alert ** I really liked the first page of this book, i thought the writing was gorgeous. And i mostly enjoyed the beggining chapters as well. But the women characters i thought were so poorly written that it cancelled out all the good this book has to offer. I really liked midori when she was first introduced, but i found myself rolling my eyes at her omg-ur-so-awesome-watanebe-ur-so-smart-and-stuff-and-im-a-total-manic-pixie-dream-girl ness. Like GODDD IT WAS AWFULLLL. Like she was so mind numbingly annoying. It was like reading r/menwritingwomen at times. It was great when the characters were talking about how awful life is but the second they got horny, i couldnt stop myself from phaically wincing at the page. After a certain point i continued the book so that i would finish it. Abd like the sex with reiko was so incredibly unnecessary. They had a sibling like relationship in my opinion and there was no chemistry whatsoever and just like WHY?! You can feel close to someone without beeding ti have sex with them. It was incredibly uncaled for and made me think that either murakami or watanabe cobfuses emotinal connection and closeness with sexual desire or something. Anyways im glad im done with it and honestly i dont see myself picking up murakami for the near future. Or maybe ever.
